We've had too many customers who didn't understand their bill a year later. This section fixes that.

Annual renewal is flat

Build Your Own, Essential, and Classic renew at a flat $29.99/yr — same number regardless of which tier you started on. No introductory pricing that "bumps up." Year 2 and beyond is always $29.99. Premium and Elite don't renew at all; Lifetime Registry is included in the purchase price.

If you picked Essential or Classic and later want to switch to lifetime, log in and click Upgrade. We charge a flat $50 (the $79.99 lifetime minus the $29.99 you already paid) and flip your status to Lifetime. No new gear ships — you already have it. No re-registration. Your ID stays valid.

If your annual registration expired, your cards and gear stay yours — only the verification status flips to Expired. Reactivate with $29.99/yr annual or a flat $79.99 lifetime. The questions people ask before picking a tier

If I pick Essential or Classic, when does the $29.99 renewal actually hit?

One year from the day you paid. Your Year 1 Annual registration is already included in the $89 / $149 bundle price, so the $29.99 charge doesn't appear on your card until Year 2. Stripe auto-bills the card on file on that anniversary, and we email you 30 days before so it's never a surprise. You can cancel from your dashboard any time — cancelling before the renewal date keeps your registration active through the remaining term but stops future charges.

What does the "Lifetime toggle" do at checkout?

For Build Your Own, Essential, and Classic, there's a single checkbox at the payment step: "Make this a Lifetime registration." For Essential and Classic it adds +$50 to the charge (because $29.99 of the $79.99 lifetime price is already in the bundle — you're paying the $50 delta). For Build Your Own it's +$79.99 flat, because BYO's à la carte bundle doesn't include an annual registration to credit against. Once checked, we never bill you again — no annual renewal, ever. Premium and Elite don't show this toggle because Lifetime Registry is already baked into their price.

Why are Premium and Elite cheaper for ESA than for Service Dog / PSD?

ESAs don't fly under the DOT's service animal rule, so the pre-filled DOT Airline Form isn't useful for an ESA handler. Dropping it takes $10 off Premium (ESA $209 vs $219) and $50 off Elite (ESA $299 vs $349). The Elite ESA price also reflects the swap from a Red Service Dog Leash to a Blue ESA Leash and the removal of the DOT form — they're priced to what's actually in the box.

Can I upgrade from Essential to Classic (or Classic to Premium) later?

Yes — log into your dashboard and pick the new tier. We credit what you've already paid toward the new bundle and charge the difference. New items ship the next business day. Upgrading tiers (Essential → Classic, Classic → Premium) is a separate action from switching from Annual to Lifetime on the same tier — that's the flat $50 toggle described above.

What happens if I let my annual registration lapse?

Your public verification page shows "Expired" instead of "Active" — but your physical card, tags, and gear are yours to keep. The IDs still identify your animal; they just don't count as an active registration until reactivated. Reactivate anytime with $29.99/yr annual or $79.99 flat lifetime. We don't ship new gear on reactivation because you already have it — we just flip your status back to Active.

Why is Premium "Most Popular"?

It's where the math tips for most new handlers. At $219 (or $209 for ESA) you get all three printed documents (certificate, registration letter, housing letter), the reflective harness, the full set of plastic cards and tags, a DOT airline form for SD/PSD, expedited 1–2 day processing — and Lifetime Registry baked in, so no renewal ever. Essential and Classic work great for handlers who already own gear; Premium works for handlers starting from zero.

Do I have to pick the monthly subscription?

No. It's completely optional and sold separately from the registration package. You can register on any tier and never take the monthly add-on. The only catch: wallet passes (Apple Wallet, Google Wallet) are only available on Basic or Pro — Apple and Google bill us per active pass, so we can't include wallet IDs in one-time registrations without the monthly fee covering each pass's lifecycle.

Is there a family discount?

Yes. Register three or more animals on the same email and we apply a 15% discount to tiers 2, 3, and beyond automatically at checkout. Pro monthly subscribers get up to three animals under one subscription at no extra cost.

What if I need to cancel right after paying?

Full refund if you cancel before your printed gear enters production (usually within 24 hours of payment). After gear ships, we refund digital products for 30 days and unused physical gear for 14 days. Full policy on our refund page. To cancel, sign in and use the Messages tab — someone will handle it within one business day.

Does registering give me legal rights under the ADA or FHA?

No. Registration is documentation, not a legal status. ADA rights for service dogs come from task training; FHA rights for ESAs come from a letter signed by a licensed clinician. We don't sell those letters — see our legitimate ESA letter guide. What registration does do is give you a verifiable ID card, a public verification page, and documents in the format housing providers and airlines expect. It's the paperwork side, not the law side.

Is my card data stored with you?

No. All payment is processed by Stripe. We see a last-4, a card brand, and a status — never the full number. You can update your card or cancel from your dashboard, which hits Stripe directly.
